Sharjah International Book Fair unveils top winners of Photography Competition

Sara Khamis Al Mazrouei from UAE won first place

SHARJAH - The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) has revealed the names of the winners of the first edition of the SIBF Photography Competition. Announced during the 2012 SIBF, the competition was held from 7-17 November 2012, with the participation of 300 professional and amateur photographers from 19 countries.
The competition's judging committee, which consisted of Zaher Al Sousi, SIBF member, professional photographer Ayesha Al Junaibi, artistic critic Mohammed Mahdi, and Saeed Hashem an expert in cultural events, selected three place winners, namely Sara Khamis Al Mazrouei from the UAE in first place, Ahmed Mohammed Suleiman of Saudi Arabia in second, and Paddy Gadiano of the Philippines third place.
Speaking on the occasion, Salim Omar Salim, Head of Sales & Marketing at the SIBF, said, "It was our pleasure to conduct the first SIBF Photography Competition. We opened the competition to professional and amateur photographers from all groups, both men and women from across the UAE and abroad, with the aim of encouraging photographers to unlock their potential and inspire the creation of photographic artworks that can compete internationally." He stressed that the competition comes in line with the SIBF's commitment to the principles of social responsibility.
Salim added, "The judging was done in adherence with a comprehensive set of criteria, focusing on the quality and beauty of the idea and the components of the picture, as well as the submitted picture’s compliance with the conditions of the competition.
The first place winner received camera, iPad 3, plus AED 7,000; the runner up received camera, iPad 3, plus AED 5,000, while the third place winner received camera. plus AED 3,000.
Out of its consciousness of the importance of exploring, developing, and supporting creative potential through all possible means, SIBF’s Management have put plans in place to further develop and expand the competition so as to attract a larger number of entrants during the upcoming edition of the Sharjah international Book Fair. in line with the UAE's continuous commitment to support creativity in its capacity as a destination of choice for creative individuals from across the country and abroad.
