Mazayana Al Dhafra: Heritage competitions launched in Madinat Zayed

Camel racing will be launched on the 23rd of December

ABU DHABI - The heritage competitions have been launched this morning, Tuesday, as part of the fifth Mazayana Al Dhafra (beauty camel contest) activities, which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage in Madinat Zayed-Western Region.
The Director of the festival's heritage competitions Obaid Khalfan Al Mazroui announced the timing schedules of the competitions that will be launched today.
The Arabian Salukis that was qualified during the falconry festival which was concluded in Al Ain on the 17th of December and resulted in qualifying 40 Salukis that will run the final challenge today in the camel racetrack that will be launched today in Madinat Zayed. Four Salukis were qualified and nominated from each of the 10 periods of the race in order to compete in the final 2 periods that will be held today and tomorrow.
The first and second ranked winners will be crowned from the Saluki owners immediately after race ends today.
While the third and fourth ranked winners will be awarded by the end of tomorrow's race.
The falconry hunting competition will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2 pm for Jeer Hor and Jeer Chahine in Madinat Zayed with the participation of over 300 falconers during two days and the first ten winners will be selected for each class everyday and the falcon owners will be awarded after the competitions on daily basis.
Obaid Al Mazroui added that heritage camel racing will be launched on the 23rd of December, morning time in Madinat Zayed track at the western region and will be assigned into six periods; three of it will be dedicated to Emiratis and the other 3 periods for all the GCC nationals. The first 10 winners of each period will be selected as a total of 60 winners at the end of the race.
The competitors will be divided into age groups as the following:
- The first group is dedicated to competitors between the ages of 18 to 35 years old competing in a 3 km race.
- The second group is dedicated to competitors between the ages of 36 to 49 years old competing in a 2 km race.
- And the third for over 50 years and will compete in a 500m race.
Obaid Al Mazroui also added that the value of prizes for heritage competitions will be around Dhs1.6m.
